Andrew Bird With The Asheville Symphony Orchestra

Thomas Wolfe Auditorium at Harrah's Cherokee Center

Grammy nominated violinist Andrew Bird will team up with Asheville Symphony Orchestra on Friday, May 29th, 2026 in Thomas Wolfe Auditorium at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina for an unforgettable concert event.

Celebrated for his virtuoso violin skills, incredible whistling and use of the looping pedal, Bird collaborates with a number of other musicians in a sensational display of classical crossover. Alongside conductor Darko Butorac, they rework a selection of familiar tunes including Pulaski at Night and Fake Palindromes.

Now, following the recent reissue of the 20th anniversary recording of The Mysterious Production of Eggs, originally released in February 1926, it’s nice to think of Bird as a poet and as someone with an ability to appreciate and work in all styles of music.

Admission start at $73. Doors open at 7:00 PM.

Andrew Bird

I think Andrew Bird is a very beautiful composer and I chose Tables and Chairs, Armchairs, Pulaski at Night, Scythian Empires, Fake Palindromes and A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left. This piece is played by a full orchestra and is really a completely different piece of music than the record version. The live experience is never the same as the record. Andrew Bird is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who has released 16 studio albums since 1996, including his 20th Anniversary Reissue of The Mysterious Production of Eggs, which was released on February 27th, 2026. This album is a reworked version of some of Bird’s most beloved compositions, each one transformed to reflect his ongoing evolution as a composer. Bird was nominated for a Grammy in 2020 for Best Folk Album for “My Finest Work Yet” which has fast becoming him one of the major music players of today. Extremely talented whistler and singer / songwriter the Bird is multi faceted with his exceptional whistling skills combined with playing the violin from a very young age (he began aged four), the use of loop pedals allowing for the one man orchestra of music and performance. Amazing words from this extraordinary man who weaves the likes of literature & nature into his words which he collaborates with ever increasing number of other artists in the music industry.

Asheville Symphony Orchestra

The Asheville Symphony Orchestra will bring the power of orchestral music to SoundMending. As a leader in classical music in Western North Carolina, the Asheville Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has been entertaining and educating audiences in the Asheville area for nearly 60 years. Formed in 1963, the orchestra has been performing classical music standards and occasionally collaborating with guest artists and ensembles. The Asheville Symphony Orchestra will perform classical music pieces in conjunction with featured guest artists like Bird for this SoundMending project. I'm not amazed that Music Director Darko Butorac's passion on stage brings music to life and creates an emotional connection with the audience, and now he will continue as Music Director of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra until 2027. The ESO’s Youth Orchestra program currently reaches over 200 young musicians from all over the region each year and has been awarded by the Alberta Arts Foundation for Community Program and Outstanding Arts in Education.
