Gillian Welch - Gillian Welch will be playing songs from her repertoire including 'Everything Is Free', 'Look at Miss Ohio' and 'Elvis Presley Blues'. Beautiful vocal performances by Welch will bring depth to songs performed live, and rawness to those from her current work which continues to explore themes and stories of work and life in rural America. Welch's songs bring to life the people and places of these environments. Born in California, Welch moved to North Carolina where she studied photography at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Welch now dedicates her time to a full time career in music and has received multiple Grammy nominations that confirm her status as one of the leading figures in contemporary folk music.
David Rawlings- (guitar, vocals) He joins Welch on tour. A truly unique singer/guitarist/songwriter in his own right, you can expect to hear the solo work of Mr. Rawlings as well as the songs he writes and performs with Welch as well as the David Rawlings Machine. Rawlings is known for his extraordinary guitar playing in the traditional style of fingerpicking on his 1935 Epiphone Olympic guitar. He's able to intricately interweave his playing with the songs of Welch to create a whole that's greater than the sum of its parts. In his solo work, Mr. Rawlings sings songs such as "Cumberland Gap" as well as other self-penned tunes. He's very meticulous with his guitars, which he likes to keep in a weathered and worn natural state. He refuses to fix things such as worn machine heads and cracked guitar heads. Rawlings has been nominated for a Grammy as well as being a skilled arranger and producer who has worked with a variety of artists in the studio.
